NT Lesson 6 – Feeds 5000

LESSON SIX

JESUS FEEDS 5000 PEOPLE

John 6:1-13

One day Jesus was teaching a large crowd of people. He healed many sick people.  Late in the afternoon the disciples told Jesus, “It is getting late and the people are getting hungry.  We are a long way from a village where people can buy food to eat.  Send the people away so that they can go to a village and buy food.”

Jesus said, “They do not need to go away. Give them something to eat.”

One disciple said, “Eight months wages is not enough to give each person a little bit of food!”

Jesus said, “How much food do we have? Go and see.”

Andrew found a little boy who had a lunch. He brought the boy to Jesus.  Andrew told Jesus, “This boy has five little loaves of bread and two small fish. But how far will that go among so many people?”

Jesus said, “Tell the people to sit down.”

The people sat down on the grass in groups. There were about five thousand men and many women and children. Jesus prayed to God and thanked him for the little boy’s lunch. Then Jesus began to break the bread and fish into pieces. As he broke the bread and fish, they multiplied!  Jesus told the disciples to put the food in baskets and give it to the people. All of the people ate until they were full. But there was still more bread and fish.

Jesus said, “Gather all the food that is left. Do not waste it.”

So the disciples gathered all the bread and fish. Twelve baskets of food were left over after everyone had eaten.
